What's Happening at First Choice Bank
First Choice Bank's 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament
Since 2011, First Choice Bank has hosted an Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit those most in need in our local communities. Each year, a total of 18 non-profit organizations throughout Southern California are chosen to receive not only monetary donations, but also publicity regarding their causes. The Bank also chooses a “Citizen of the Year” to honor the individuals in our community who work tirelessly to help those less fortunate. Each year, the success of this event is dependent on the generosity of the sponsors and participants. In 2018, a record-high $111,600 was donated by the Bank and the Much is Given Foundation to the chosen area charities. We look forward to making an even bigger impact in our communities through this year’s event!
Stacey Middle School’s Eighth Grade Exit Portfolio Interview
For the fourth year in a row, employees of First Choice Bank, along with other community volunteers, participated in Stacey Middle School’s Eighth Grade Exit Portfolio Interview. Students demonstrated what they have learned throughout the school year by presenting their portfolios to an interviewer. The portfolios contain essay, artifacts from their curriculum, resume, and future goals. First Choice Bank was delighted to have participated in these students’ educational experience.
First Choice Bank Scholarship Program
For the second year in a row, First Choice Bank has partnered with Alhambra Unified School District and ABC Unified School District. First Choice Bank Scholarship Program was able to provide scholarships to graduating high school students that are economically-disadvantaged and demonstrated academic excellence. This year, eleven outstanding students were honored and received a total of $11,000 in scholarship funds. FCB believes that the most impactful way to give back to our community is to inspire our next generation to thrive in their education.
First Choice Bank is proud of its ongoing partnership with Los Angeles Saves, an organization focused on making savings a priority for everyone. Nora Perez, the Bank’s Assistant CRA Officer, was part of a team that visited Van Nuys Library on March 2nd to highlight the benefits of saving to low-to-moderate income individuals and families in the area. FCB is dedicated to working with its clients to achieve their financial goals, and events like this are a great way to encourage success for everyone.
Financial Literacy with First Choice Bank and Junior Achievement
On February 28th, our staff had the pleasure once again of participating in a Junior Achievement (JA) Financial Literacy Day. This time, we taught 3rd and 5th grade students at Fryberger Elementary School in Westminster. Both groups of students concentrated on the importance of being involved in and contributing to the economy, with the 3rd graders focused on how people and businesses in cities manage their money, while the 5th graders studied the nation’s free market system. FCB employees were excited to be a part of the children’s learning experience and even more thrilled to see how engaged the students were in the process. We look forward to many more fulfilling JA Day events.
On February 8th, the Bank’s BSA officer, Jae Park, was invited to be a panel speaker at a local training event for Money Service Businesses (MSBs). The event, hosted by the ACAMS Southern CA Chapter and Northgate Market, was arranged to present information about related BSA/AML compliance issues, as well as review industry best practices with approximately 100 local MSB business owners and bank officers. The Bank knows how critical it is for local businesses to have the right information in order to operate correctly and successfully, and we are committed to making that happen in whatever ways we can.
FCB Holiday Donations
For a second year in a row, First Choice Bank was pleased to sponsor several families-in-need as part of the 2017 Family Holiday Drive by Aviva Family and Children’s Services, a non-profit organization serving Los Angeles-area children and families in crisis. A total of eight families were “adopted” by the Bank to receive not only holiday gifts but also much-needed living essentials. We are proud to have been able to help these families and make a positive impact on their lives when they needed it most. In addition, FCB partnered in December with the Marine Toys for Tots Program, now four years running, to collect and distribute toys for less fortunate children in our community during the holiday season. We are humbled by the generosity displayed by Bank employees and directors for this cause- more than four huge boxes of toys were collected! We are grateful for the ongoing support provided by the Bank and its employees and directors for these and other very worthy organizations.
